Imagine doing your grocery shopping and updating your Facebook status at the same time – without stepping foot into a store. With pioneers like AaramShop upping the ante on social commerce, purchasing all of your favorite wares via Facebook is something we can all like.
We’re all familiar with e-commerce – who hasn’t skipped the crowds on Black Friday for the comfort of Cyber Monday? – but Social Commerce, the ability to shop from your favorite social sites, is a trend that we see gaining popularity.
The AaramShop Facebook application is currently in early testing stages and only available in select locations throughout India. It allows shoppers to order items from grocery stores located nearby. Once the order is placed and processed, the customer will receive a confirmation either through email or text message and the items will be delivered to their door.
Closer to home, there are many popular brands that have brought their stores to Facebook. Lands’ End Canvas, Best Buy and Express all offer e-commerce directly through the social site.
There are critics who claim that Facebook will never reach its full potential with social purchasing (The Wall Street Journal ran a piece on the debate this last spring); however, we feel that the sharing capabilities alone show major potential in helping to boost a company’s revenue.
Think about the last time you asked a friend where they got a pair of shoes or jacket. Now imagine that when that friend purchased the jacket you received a notification in your Facebook newsfeed alerting you to the buy. You not only know where they bought it, but have the tools at your fingertips to hop on over to the retailer’s Page and snag one for yourself.
Seems like pretty smart product placement to us.
Have you ever purchased something directly from Facebook? If not, would you?
